Enriching Lives
22.02.2017 / Water is life!

Namibia has been in a major drought over the last four years, and this wildlife area had received no rain, meaning that the two natural springs being frequented by the rhino in the area dried up for the first time in living memory. Unfortunately we lost one rhino calve due to the extreme drought. Ultimate Safaris in partnership with the Conservancy and Save the Rhino Trust got funding from GPTF (Game Products Trust Fund) to drill for water. With one out of three holes successfully finding water, it was good news, but not enough to sustain the rhino and wildlife in the area. The Conservation Travel Foundation then funded the water installations and the drilling of another successful hole. Although the area has received good rains over the last couple of weeks, there is now sufficient water to sustain the wildlife in the area through the dry times. The cost of the drilling and water installations was in the region of N$ 320 000-00, and we would like to thank all those involved in this process, WATER IS LIFE!
